Repairer did not understand repair as a return to the original state. Real repair had to acknowledge what had broken, who had borne the cost, and which old structures could no longer be copied. He turned a crack into an opening for improvement, but refused to cover old wounds with attractive new rules. Once repair began, a new question remained: how could change be trusted together, instead of merely announced by a few?
